Comcast Announces Stream – Misses the Point Again

Comcast-StreamComcast has announced a new streaming TV service, called Stream. It’s available only to current Comcast customers. Basically, it’s targeted at Xfinity customers with internet only plans.

Stream is available to watch on “laptops, tablets, and phones” I assume desktops are also included, but TV’s are noticeably lacking so, don’t count on them making it easy to watch Stream on the largest screen in your life. The service is $15 per month and includes “all the major broadcast nets and HBO”. It includes Comcast’s Cloud DVR technology, so in that one regard they’ll have a leg-up on Sling.com.

So, if you…
1) are already a Comcast customer
2) don’t mind watching TV only on mobile devices
3) Oh, yeah live in Boston. this is a beta only. Chicago and Seattle will roll out next and they say it will be available “everywhere” (everywhere Comcast is sold) in early 2016.

The 6 of you Bostonians that meet that criteria might want to check it out ASAP.

Someone please explain to me why Comcast wouldn’t launch with Roku/Amazon FireTV apps for this?
